This is the Second Half (Volume Two) of 'Barth's Travels in Africa', and this half covers Timbuktu, Sokoto, the Basins of the Niger and Benuwe. Dark sage green cloth with black stamped titling to the front board and black rules, dulled gilt titling to the spine and a stain (? Something plus old Ink? ) across the words at the top of the spine (and a little on the top page fore-edge) - through 'Minerva' and 'Famous'. A small 'v' shaped chip with loss to the head of the spine. No other chips. Patterned end-papers with browning/offsetting, plus light age-tanning (browning) and foxing spots to the fore-edges and page edges, with the top edge dust-dulled. Inner hinges which were slightly splitting, are now re-glued neatly. NO Inscriptions or Marks, other than those mentioned. (xviii) + 548 pp + (10 pp) publisher's adverts. Eight full-page b/w wood-engraved full page illustrations, including the frontispiece, plus 44 b/w woodcuts in the text. In general Good + condition. Boards are secure, bumps to extremities with small areas of wear to cloth at corners and spine ends, cloth very clean apart from the stain to the top of the spine already noted. Text block is generally very clean, apart from the light foxing to some page edges and to the first 5 pages, including the title page which has some scattered light foxing/spotting actually on the pages.
