Moore Henry Shelter Sketch Book (Sketchbook) London Editions Poetry (PL) 1940/5 Presumed 1st Edition Hardcover Very Good- in Fair dust jacket Illustrated by Henry Moore NO Date, but assume that this was actually published after the war in circa ? 1945, despite the reproduction of Henry Moore's name and date given as 1940 on the ffep. VG Very Clean Beige cloth boards, gilt titled spine, stamped black blocked and gilt banded label with gilt titling on the front cover. The top inner edges are bumped and 'pressed'. In the original publisher's dustjacket, which is Complete, but has some rubbing, creasing, surface wear, edgewear and closed tears, all of which have a few old repairs with brown paper to the inside of the d/j. The Dustjacket is Not price-clipped. A former owner's gift inscription is on the front pastedown under the front flap - " From Derrick (? ) September 1945". A facsimile name/date on the front free endpaper reads "Henry Moore October 1940". This ffep has some light scattered foxing. A quarter of the inner paper hinge is splitting and as it is bound like the original sketchbook it is a little 'shaky' in the binding - but all is tight and sound despite this. No other Inscriptions or Marks. Unpaginated, but contains 82 facsimile drawings, on 'art' paper, taken from Moore's original sketch books and reproduced here in b/w with colour shading to some images. "Possibly the most important document produced by an English artist in wartime. Life in the air raid shelters... " . Internally excellent. Priced at 15/- on the inner flap.
