Quigley Hugh Passchendaele and the Somme . A Diary of 1917 Bath Portway (Cedric Chivers) 1960s Facsimile Reprint Hardcover Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket This is a Facsimile of the original book published in 1928. No Date, but c.1960s. In Plain blue glazed buckram boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. In the publisher's plain, light green, black and white lettered/gold decorated, dustjacket. Dustjacket is NOT clipped and is complete, now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Fine. The page fore-edges are lightly speckled with foxing spots on the top edge only and oddly a section of about 15 pp towards the very end is unifromly browning, whereas the remaining pages are quite white, so assume a different batch of paper used at that point during printing? . NO Inscriptions or Marks - probably unused. The book seems to be an Exact Facsimile of the original with the Half-title, Original Title page with Methuen & Co, Ltd, as Publishers at the foot of the page, the original date "First published in 1928", etc. At the foot of the edition page it states: - "This book has been reprinted by Cedric Chivers Ltd of Bath at the request of the London & Home Counties Branch of the Library Association". However there is NO sign of this ever having been in a library, so presume 'remaindered' in some way. NO stamps, marks or Inscriptions. (x) + (2) + 191 pp; Unillustrated. Index. Overall an Excellent, Clean, Tight and Bright Near Fine copy. "Originally published in 1928, this classic war diary was written in 1917 and reproduced without modification. It was the authors intention to issue it anonymously, but the possibility of critics doubting its authenticity made this course inadvisable. Its preface written in 1918 has been retained since its spirit is that of the diary.... In France, during the period in question the author served with the 12th Royal Scots in the 9th Division." ; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall Price:
