Book Condition: Very Good- with no dust jacket

In original sage green cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. The covers and spine are also attractively decorated in blind. The spine is very LIGHTLY age-faded but not affecting the gilt - which is still bright. The corners and head/tail of the spine are a little 'bumped' and the tips/edges are slightly 'rubbed', there is also a little fading/staining to the top front corner, but overall the covers are Very Good. The book is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Very Good. Plain lemon endpapers with the former owner's heraldic bookplate (Fitzwilliams of Cilgwyn) to the centre of the front pastedown and an old small booksellers label (David Bryce, Glasgow) to the very top left corner. A small binder's label (Westleys & Clark. , London) to the inner bottom of the rear pastedown also. A pictorial title page with a b/w vignette central engraving, and with the former owner's name and location (Jane Ewing, Strathleven) written to the top of the page, and a further Printed Title page following. The engraved title is LIGHTLY browning in patches but there are only a couple of light spots to the printed title. The page fore-edges are a little 'dusty' and have an isolated spot of foxing here and there but in general the book is VERY Clean and Tight, with no other marks. (vii) + (1) + 485 pp + (1) + (1 Advert leaf). There are 3 further full page b/w steel engravings which have some light patches of foxing to the edge areas. "A remarkable travel document by Rev. Fisk recording his travels through Europe, the Middle East and Holy Land and beyond." . As a Minister there are the usual biblical references, etc, but the book is full of local and social detail as well. A fascinating glimpse into early Nineteenth century travel, customs and belief systems, taking a route through Europe to Palestine, Jerusalem, Egypt, The Arabian Desert, The Dead Sea, Jordan, The Islands of the Archipelago and Constantinople, etc, etc. Images available on request. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
