This is a bound volume for the year 1856. Many well known Düsseldorf artists illustrated the magazine and other famous artists of the day participated - The inspiration for the magazine was the Parisian satirical journal 'Le Charivari'. No other political satire magazine in Prussia achieved such artistic excellence. Full of Wonderfully drawn caricatures/satirical drawings of topics of the time - Soldiers; War; Culture; Medicine; Theft; Money, Education; Poverty, etc, etc - anything that could be satirized - was! . Apart from lacking 8 plates this is quite a nice copy of a scarce item. At the time of listing I also have Volume 5 (c. 1852 - lacking 5 plates ) in this series, please enquire if interested in both.
