The Complete 3 Volume set - The First volume is a second impression 1966, the next 2 are FIRST Editions - Vol 2 - 1966, & Vol 3 -1969. All 3 are in similar dust-jackets. The foot of the spine of the 'Middle' d/j is surface chipped, one closed tear to the top of the 2nd volume and the white is discoloured to the top edges of volume 1 & 2, o/w the d/js are generally VG. As each volume was published in different years the books are similar but not identical - the first 2 are bound in red cloth boards with bright gilt titling to the spine, (Vol 1 has one lightly bumped corner but no damage) and the 'Later volume is bound in black cloth-bound boards with bright gilt to the titling. All covers clean and tight. The d/j illustration is identical on the last 2 volumes, but has the Knight and Castle reversed in position and colour on the 'Early' volume, and this volume ONLY the d/j is price clipped - with a price sticker! . Similarly the titling to the spine of the d/js is reversed in colour on the early volume . (See Images) . The base colour to the last volume is more cream than the 'white' of the 2 earlier vols. Top edges red, the remaining page fore-edges are uniformly toned/lightly tanned with age. ALL 3 volumes SIGNED and dated (16/6/75) in blue biro under his printed name on the Title page, TOGETHER WITH a hand-written note from Golombek = "For Mr Baker with best wishes Harry Golombek 20/6/75". This is tipped on to the front free endpaper of Vol 1. Internally No other Inscriptions or Marks, and generally all 3 volumes are very clean, tight and bright. All the d/js are now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic covers and look VG/Nr. Fine. This book came from the Chess collection of the late John Bradley, Irish archaeologist, Scholar, Medievalist, Author and more, and member of Kilkenny Chess Club. He was on the team that won the Armstrong Cup in 2011 and represented Ireland at two European finals, etc. A great opportunity to acquire a very nice set with the added extra of Harry Golombek's Signatures plus.
