Biggles in Spain

By: Johns Captain W. E.

Price: £75.00

Quantity: 1 available

The TRUE First edition with pink-red cloth-covered boards, black titling to the spine and front cover and with the outline of Spain and 2 planes flying over it, illustrated in black to the front board. Boards are sound and tight with only light wear to the tips of the corners and some light 'crushing to the head/tail of the spine, a slight 'lean' to the book and some light 'reading' lines to the spine, BUT the red-pink cloth colour is very patchy and faded in parts, possibly an attempt to re-colour by a former owner - could perhaps be professionally re-coloured? . A lot of light brown spotting (foxing) to the page fore-edges. Internally complete and tight, but again quite a lot of light spotting and patchy foxing throughout, mainly to the prelims, title, last few pages and blank margins, but, here and there, encroaching into the text block. All text very clear and readable. The Sub-Title reads = "Another adventure in the careers of Major James Bigglesworth, D.S.O., M.C., D.F.C., his War-time friend and comrade, Captain the Hon Algernon Lacey, MC and their protege, Ginger Hebbelthwaite, of Smettleworth Yorkshire." . 256 pp. Full page frontispiece in colour and 6 other full page b/w illustrations as called for. NO Inscriptions or other Marks. "Make for London. If you get there, tell them what happened.' Biggles, Algy and Ginger accidentally arrive in Spain during the civil war. After a chance encounter with a British Intelligence agent who passes them a coded message which has to be got back to the Ministry of Defence in London, they are involved in a desperate chase to get back home with the evil chief of Intelligence and Propaganda after them..." . A True FIRST - NOT the later 'Pyramid' Edition - with the date printed at the foot of the reverse of the title page - and a complete and sound copy, but the patchy covers and foxing make it not a copy for picky collectors, so only categorised as Fair. Priced accordingly. See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
