Price: £95.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Good in Good dust jacket

2nd Impression 1941 (First Cheap Edition) . In light blue cloth boards with darker blue titling to the spine. In the original publisher's lettered dust-jacket. The base colour to the spine is slightly faded and the very head/tail of the spine slightly 'pushed' and darkened from storage - but generally good, clean, unmarked & sound, tight covers. As usual with this War Time typical Gollancz yellow base colour, the dust-jacket has faded, as can be seen by the slightly darker yellow of the inner flaps, but presents as quite clean, with strong black and purple lettering. Some chipping to the corners, and losses, mainly to the head/tail of the d/j spine, but all tears are now tidied/repaired to the reverse, and the d/j is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and the d/j looks quite good. (See Images). The page fore-edges and edges are browned, and browned throughout the book, but fairly uniformly given the cheaper wartime paper used. Some light foxing (pale tan spots) also to the fore-edges. Internally a former owners name and address in old ink on the top front corner of the front free endpaper. Both front and rear endpapers are foxed (pale tan spotting) and the first blank rear endpaper after the end of the book has quite a large a hole (2.5 x 2.5 cm) in it. The remainder of the book - although printed on browning paper - is clean, tight and bright. An early edition in its dust-jacket, of this now classic detective/crime novel. "It’s coming on Christmas, and Arthur Ferryman is headed to his ancestral home, Belrive Priory. Looking forward to a peaceful holiday, Arthur’s serenity is quickly interrupted by a horde of his cousins brandishing revolvers...With Arthur harbouring secrets and a few grudges of his own, will Inspector Appleby be able to crack this case before any further ‘accidents’ transpire or will the shooter finally hit his mark?" . Scarce. See Images. ; 8vo 7.5" - 8" tall.
